Yesterday's workshop at the Opoka Residential Care and Educational Centre in Wrocław was filled with joy, mindfulness, teamwork and the kind of small moments that bring genuine happiness.
Together with the children, we planted beans and replanted tomatoes, while also checking on the garden beds where the results of our previous work together are already beginning to appear. With great curiosity, we observed how the potatoes and tomatoes are growing, reminding ourselves that nature follows its own rhythm and that some things are simply worth waiting for.
After planting, it was time for harvesting. The children happily picked ripe strawberries and wild strawberries, explored the wonderful scents of fresh herbs such as mint, sage, lavender, savory, and chives, and discovered just how many treasures a garden can hold. They proudly brought the freshly picked herbs to their caregivers and delighted them with beautiful wildflowers gathered from the nearby meadow.
Another memorable moment was watering the plants. The watering cans were sometimes too heavy for one child to carry alone, so they naturally began helping one another. Together they carried the water, laughed and took great care of every plant. It is in these simple moments that cooperation, responsibility and the feeling that we can achieve more together truly begin to grow.
For us, Gardens of Potential is about much more than gardening. It is a space where relationships are built, where children discover the world through all their senses and where they can simply be together, without rushing, with care and attention for one another. Every workshop reminds us that the time we spend with the children is just as important as what we plant together. Alongside vegetables, fruit and herbs, trust, curiosity, and the joy of small achievements continue to grow.
We would like to thank all the participants for this wonderful time spent together. We are already looking forward to our next workshop and to watch both our gardens and our young gardeners continue to flourish week by week.
